Breathing Life Back: Majalatti’s Miyawaki Forest Blooms with Community Spirit

On the eve of World Environment Day

In a powerful example of corporate-NGO-community partnership, a new Miyawaki forest is taking root at Majalatti, Belagavi district. The 1-acre urban forest is being developed through a collaboration between Visteon India Pvt Ltd, Grameen Pragati Shikshan Samsthe, Majalatti, and Namma Asha Kirana Charitable Trust (NAK), Bengaluru, with support from BR Sangappgol.

The green transformation began in December 2025 with the planting of 4,000 native saplings. Momentum continues, with 6,000 more saplings planned for plantation in the coming months. Using the Miyawaki method, this dense, native forest will grow 10x faster and become self-sustaining in just 2-3 years.

This initiative thrives on collective effort. We extend heartfelt thanks to the BR Sangappgol Group of Institutes students, teachers, and staff, along with local village volunteers, senior citizens, and NAK volunteers who contributed their time, sweat, and spirit to make this possible.

This marks NAK’s second Miyawaki project. The first was successfully implemented at Gaddankere Cross, Bagalkot district, with support from the Karnataka Forest Department. Both forests are already showing impact – attracting diverse fauna and becoming peaceful havens for morning and evening walkers seeking a breath of fresh air.

These projects beautifully embody the Kannada environmental ethos: “Manegondu mara, oorigondu vana” – one plant in every home, one forest in every town – for a greener, healthier Karnataka.

As we mark World Environment Day, the Majalatti forest stands as proof that when industry, education, NGOs, and citizens unite, barren land can become biodiversity hubs. One acre at a time, we are building the future our children deserve.
